The Proposal: Emily's Side of the Story

'Twas the night before Christmas, and all through the house, not a creature was stirring (except for Ivy, of course)...After spending a wonderful day with our families, we had just gotten back to our little nest of an apartment; it was around 8:15pm. I changed into something more comfortable--sweats! We were curled up on the couch, next to our beautiful Christmas tree, ready to watch It's a Wonderful Life. "Should we open a present?" he asked me. And, of course, I said, "Sure!" He chose a present, and quickly opened it (socks, haha). He really liked them :) Then, as I reached beneath the tree to grab my gift to open, he handed me a small, beautifully wrapped little box. At this point, you're probably wondering if I knew what it was. And, yes, I was almost certain it was going to be a ring. So, my hands started shaking, and I was literally holding my breath! I slowly unwrapped it. There, beneath the gold and silver paper, was a small red box with the words "Helzberg Diamonds". I looked at Noah and smiled. He took the box from my hands, opened it and revealed a smaller ring box. Then (I'm getting choked up just thinking about it!), he got down on one knee, opened the box, and said (with tear-filled eyes and a shaky but gentle voice): "Emily, I love you so much. I'm going to love you until the day I die...and I want you to marry me. Will you marry me?" I picked my jaw up from off the ground (hehe), wiped my eyes and gave him a huge hug, kissed him, whispered into his ear: "Of course. I love you so much." Then, we hugged each other and I started crying and laughing! We hugged and kissed, laughed and cried for another 10 minutes or so. The ring is sooooo beautiful, I could hardly believe it! There I was in my grungy sweats, face red from crying, hair all a mess! Then he jokingly said, "Was that a yes?" We laughed. Then, the phone-calling began. We called my parents first. They knew he was going to propose! Earlier that week, Noah had gone out to their house--6-pack for dad; a dozen roses for mom. He asked for their blessing, and they said YES, of course. They love him! I was still balling as I broke the news to them. I told them I love them, and they were just so happy and excited for us. Next, we called his parents. They knew he was proposing, too! His mom, Debbie, was crying! So excited for us, and proud of her son. Both she and Tom, as well as his sisters, have welcomed me into their family from the first day I met them; they're amazing! We continued calling our friends. It was an amazing, unforgettable night! So special.
